Penn Hills School District

Important Press Release from the Penn Hills School District

Penn Hills School District Administration participated in its latest meeting with officials from the PA Department of Education (PDE) today regarding the District’s financial challenges. These challenges stem from the District’s borrowing, beginning in 2009, to fund new construction of both the high school and elementary complexes. The benefits of more extensive consultation were discussed today also, and the District has learned that PDE will be offering extended services via the assignment of a financial consultant, similar to what was provided to Penn Hills School District in the latter half of 2013-2014. However, present support services will be provided under the umbrella of Financial Watch. As per PDE, the goal of Financial Watch is “to identify and offer technical assistance to school districts experiencing financial difficulties.”

PDE has stressed that this extended support should NOT be considered as an attempt at State takeover. Despite the latest request for takeover from State Representative Tony DeLuca, once again, PDE has concluded that such drastic measures are NOT warranted. Penn Hills School Board and Administration welcome the additional resources being made available by PDE. We also appreciate PDE’s confidence and continued support.
