Student Wins for Her Poem
Akem Agbere entered the recent CCAC Student Engagement Contest based upon the book Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. She was selected as the high school winner for the poem, "Legacy of Slavery." Akem was invited to come to the South Campus to read it at the Poetry Slam and receive her prize. Although unable to attend, she will receive a framed certificate and Kindle, including a case and shield covers.
This is the District's third partnership with CCAC. Dr. Evans is the Associate Dean at the South Campus and the Director for One College, One Community Reads, and she is always impressed with our students. PHHS Librarian Dorothy Coleman said, "I am grateful to them for providing this enriching learning experience for our students. This is the type of exposure and enrichment that more of our students need to prepare them for college and their future."
Please congratulate Akem and keep encouraging her to follow the Penn Hills Way!
