NJROTC Cadets Qualify for Nationals for the Second Year
On Saturday, February 4, 2017, cadets from the Penn Hills NJROTC competed at Southhold High School in Mattituck, New York along with nine other schools in the Area 4 Brain Brawl. Brain Brawl is an academic competition that uses a combination of Jeopardy and Hometown High Q style questions.
The Penn Hills cadets took second place at the Area 4 Brain Brawl out of the 60 units in our area and qualified for the National Brain Brawl Competition for the second year in a row. This year, Nationals are being held on May 6, 2017, at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.
“I am extremely proud of us making Nationals two years in a row,” Cadet Commander Christine Spieler said. “We are building a legacy of excellence. It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get where we are and I could not be prouder of our team.” She said that the Penn Hills cadets performed better than the elitist schools that they were up against. Last year, they placed 7th at Nationals, and this year they are working for a top 5 finish. “We are excited for this opportunity to represent Penn Hills at the National Brain Brawl again this year,” she stated.
