As WE prepare to begin our Spring Break on Wednesday, March 31, I think it's important to share a few very important updates. Similar to what's been observed around the world, PHSD has also seen an uptick in COVID-19 case numbers over the past few weeks. WE are fortunate, however, that a review of contact tracing reports with our School Nurses and Allegheny County Health Department officials, strongly suggests our mitigation strategies within PHSD continue to be effective. Of the 25 known cases reported since March 1, 2021 (when K-12 students were afforded the opportunity to learn onsite 4 days per week), test positivity for 11 PHSD affiliates was directly linked to family members who had already tested positive prior, and the PHSD affiliates in 5 other cases were confirmed NOT to have been onsite during their infectious period. Please allow me to be clear that there is NO evidence to suggest the 9 other PHSD affiliates were exposed to COVID-19 while onsite; however, the specific source of their exposure isn't readily known. For additional details, please visit our website at www.phsd.k12.pa.us. Follow the "District" tab at the top of the main page and the "**COVID-19**" link.
While WE are all anxious for restrictions to be lifted, EVERYONE'S ongoing cooperation is necessary to ensure WE are able to continue offering a safe learning and working environment. Whether you are celebrating a holiday or just taking it easy March 31-April 5, PLEASE continue to wear your mask, to maintain safe distances, to wash your hands frequently, and to remain isolated should you feel symptoms associated with COVID-19 exposure.
Shortly after our return to standard business operations on Tuesday, April 6, our PH Families will be receiving a short survey to help us gauge interest in the summer program we are planning for June 21-July 2 and August 2-13 from 8:30 am-3:30 pm. More details will be included in the survey.
WE wish EVERYONE continued good health.
