Updated Message from the Superintendent- April 20, 2021

PHHS Counselor Dr. Amy Alexander has put together a trauma team to help us host a safe place for PHHS students to discuss the verdict released earlier today in the Minnesota jury trial involving the death of George Floyd.  Dr. Alexander and her team will be available in the PHHS auditorium from 7:30-9:30 am on Thursday, April 22, 2021.  All PHSD school counseling teams and social workers will be available to meet with K-12 students and staff as needed over the coming days, separate from the PHHS Special Response Team support session.

While some are suggesting such a district response may not be necessary given the verdict, we realize that older students, especially, will likely realize one verdict doesn't change circumstances for many, and it certainly doesn't bring back those victims whom we've lost.  Admittedly, there's still much work to be done.  Our hope is that our trained counseling staff will help manage continued grief and trauma that may be aggravated by anticipated media coverage.

Thanks,

Nancy
